Graph Tite Seal

Later today I'm gonna install my Graph Tite rear oil seal.
The last paragraph of the install instrucions have me a tad confused.

"Coat all cap (or seal retainer)-to-block mating surfaces with sealant."

If I were to put sealant on the cap to block mating surfaces and toque it down, wouldn't it all come oozing out?
Do you guys usually put sealant between the cap and block?
Yet it does say "or seal retainer".........which are the shallow holes in the bottom of the cap and block I believe.
Just don't wanna mess this up!
Thanks
TK

When the seal is rolled and cut into place and you are ready to install the cap, run a small bead of RTV sealant on the block. Starting outward of the seal ends going outward. I am not familiar with the Graph tite seal. Read the instructions again. It does not make sense what you told us.
