Help identify this part!!!

I have my 65 GTO completely torn apart restoring it piece by piece. I am normally very good at bagging and tagging items so I can remember what they are, except this piece. I went to get some of the smaller items out so I can clean them up and repaint them. This bracket was in a bag with the retaining ring that holds the clutch rod boot to the firewall and the semi-circle bracket that bolts to the bottom of the dash and holds the steering column in place. So I know it is from under the dash, on the dash, the firewall, or the steering column. It is definitely designed to hold something in place because of the wedge sides and it only has one mounting hole. The arms are also different lengths and notched differently. If you know what this piece is and where it goes I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Dale

that is the bracket that holds the steering shaft cover in place.see pic- it goes under the shaft and has a stud that threads into the shaft cover. the bracket sits against the dash and when you turn the stud it tightens the cover piece into place, and there is a lock nut to stop it from backing out

Thanks for all the help. I guess I am going to have to wait until I get my steering column back and install it before it clicks and I remember the part and taking it off. The mind is a terrible thing.
