Intake Manifold question

I found the intake manifold for my 67 Goat.
wha are those 'cuts' in the metal?
they look like they are supposed to be there,

you are correct, might of had a problem with the manifolds cracking? Might have the slits in them to relieve stress when bolting the intake down? Im completely guessing but it sounds good to me.

I always thought it was for expansion and contraction. It gets real hot there where the exhaust cross over is. I may be wrong.

Those cuts isolate the exhaust x-over from the rest of the intake, they mostly keep the manifold from cracking. FYI, on some manifolds the front part (WATER CROSSOVER) is completely seperate. If you want to switch intake manifolds, you need not open the cooling system!
