limited slip problems?

I called my local car repair guy today.
He's an "old timer" with a 69 Goat.
Got a quote for cleaning and redoing my fuel tank.
I told him how the right axle "moves" side to side about 3/16ths
he said that he might could fix that, BUT if the limited slip portion is hosed,
that those cannot be repaired.
I think he might have meant if it were/is the original
Does this sound right?
thanks as always

axle moving side to side is not a fault in the posi, sounds like bearing.
