My 68 tempest that I just picked up

Found a 68 tempest on craigslist. Body looked straight with very little dings. 400 motor, b&m shifter and I'm hoping there's good hearings in here, I was told this was used on a strip.

Motor was never started since 97 , but was told that it still was running before they stashed it. Anyone got ideas on what the first steps are? Drain gas? Dump oil? Rebuild carb?

Notice a gap on the grill and fender, why do you think it isn't lined up?

No fender wells

Garage
Nice score! Congrats.
Drain the gas tank and clear all the lines. I would run it off a gas can first, then do the tank later.
Drain/refill oil, rebuild carb and clear out the sediment.
Check/change plugs.
Me- I would make sure the oil looks good, throw a battery in it, then see if it turns over. If it does, let it crank for 10-15 seconds to get some oil moving, make sure it has oil pressure. Then, dump some gas down the carb, ounce or so and see if it fires up. If it runs at all then you know the ignition works. This will also tell if they are lying and the motor is blown or it has a spun bearing, thus making all maintenance a waste of time. If it runs, then do all the maintenance stuff above. If it doesn't turn over, then put a big wrench on the crank and see if the motor turns at all. If it still doesn't, then pull the plugs and try again.
Good luck, hope it cranks right up.

Burning rubber since 1982!!
My photobucket, lots of dif car pics.

It's called a "grill to fender seal" in OPGI's catalog( Chevelle Parts, Chevelle Restoration Parts & Accessories, El Camino Restoration Parts & Accessories, Restoration Parts, Monte Carlo Parts, GTO Parts, Cutlass Parts, Skylark Parts, Cadillac Parts | OPGI.com ). $61.95 for the pair. Other vendors may have them too, Ames YearOne etc....
