new heater core

This is on a 72 with a/c , but I assume all will be similar. Does the heater core go in the box with no seal first against the core? It seams the core would have metal to metal chaffing as you screw the clamp bands to tighten it in.

I believe from 1967-1972 they are all very similar. There are several guys here who have dine heatercores/boxes. Hopefully they will chime in with their expertise.

Here's a thread that may be helpful----- https://www.gtoforum.com/f50/71-leman...re-swap-30240/

Best of luck!

Thanks for the response. This is what may confuse me from that and what I see.

NOTE: Be sure the core to case sealer is intact before installing core. Use new sealer if necessary.

Is this part of the new heater seal kit I ordered? It seemed odd when I mocked up the install, that the heater core would fasten against metal. Maybe prematurely chafing a hole to leak.

You might try sending a PM to MEANGREEN71 and since he has done this job, he probably can answer your questions.

I called Ames Engineering today and they cold find nothing in their books. I had a roll of paper gasket material and decided to make a picture frame square where the heater core meets the metal box as a cushion against metal to metal chaffing.
