odd fitting

Masking up to paint my motor and came across this plug that was barely tight (below and behind the oil filter bracket)...........cautiousy l slid a screw driver and it went in a couple inches! Any idea what it is?

Correct; coolant drain plug. There is one on each side.

I agree and your machine shop probably pulled it when they hot tanked your block and replaced the freeze plugs. Put a little pipe sealant on both of the plugs (NOT tape) and snug them up good. Good thing you checked it TC!
