Plasti dip for protection

Hey guys I was thinking of using plasti dip to cover my fenders and other places to protect the paint while I work in the engine bay and such. I have no experience with plasti dip so I am curious if it will wreck the clear coat?

It seems like it would work better then fender covers, also my car won't be done for a while and I would like to preserve the uber expensive paint job as well as I can until it can leave the garage on its own accord.
