Replacement Round Bar Shifter for 66 GTO with console!

I recently bought a new Hurst Comp Plus with the round bar for my 66 GTO with a center console.
The shift body fits fine, but the round bar is not bent toward the passenger side like the original shifter. As such the bar hits the console and I can’t even access 1st/2nd or Reverse.

Has anyone encountered this with the replacement Hurst comp plus that has been available with the round bar.

I can post pictures that show how different the curve is between the original and the replacement . I know this has always been a problem with the 66/67 console, but the store who sold me the shifter swears that it works on a console GTO, but I don’t see how.

the 66 was the last year for 4 speed pontiac/hurst shifters using the early style Hurst Lever
that is forked on the bottom and not removeable and last year for the early design
friction adjustment bolt linkage ...

If your trying to look original ... I would buy a 66 restored shifter
and use ALL 67 68 linkage

this is a late 67 handle that fits the console better in reverse they say ...
this is the dagger style slide in handle new for 67
I have a mint one for the late 67 if anyone has a need

then
you would get away from that original last year compresion/friction adjusters
on the 64-66 linkage

get your 66 rebuilt and use 67 68 real gto linkage and it will still clear your console correctly

and sell what you just bought...that black aftermarket hurst linkage with the round adjuster
nuts are junk ... to me ... yah they work,,, should have lock nuts both ends...blah blah
yah they are better that worn original

but nothin beats GOOD condition factory ... or factory style repro linkage

heres a 68 set up for linkage visual ....mounted in my 68 frame

and the HURST box is basically the same chrome handle is 68 69 on a 70 M-22

just my .02 ......

I think I have enough shifter bodies. I have a Flat Bar Comp Plus from the 70's that I used when my shifter first started locking up. It has the newer linkage that has threaded barrels that you spin to the right length then attache to the shifter with locking clips. I have my original 1966 comp plus and a new special edition comp plus with round bar welded in.

My shifter bar leans distinctly toward the passenger side and when installed is centered perfectly in the console bezel. The 67 shifter is way too straight and actually not worth the money since that price is close to what I paid for a new comp plus with a special round bar welded to it. Unfortunately it's shaped the same way, too straight! It hit the left side of the console and wont work. The 67 on ebay won't fit either. Too straight and probably a total mess inside.

I attached picture that show the difference in the shape of the shift handle. These views are facing forward where the right side of the shifter attaches to the transmission and "faces" the passenger side of the car.

66 GTO's with a console are a special case. Definitely not the same a what a 66 GTO without a console would have had.
