Sludge

Pulled the 400 out just to replace leaky gaskets and seals.

Take a look at what I found in the oil pan.

I've never seen that in any of my Pontiacs in the past 35 years. What engine oil are you running and what are your change intervals? When I tore down my '67 GTO at 173,000 miles, my pan had no sludge at all in it. Ditto other Pontiacs I've owned. I always used Valvoline back then, switched to Kendall, then to Rotella about 10 years ago. Newer Pennzoil is not paraffin based like the ancient stuff, so it shouldn't be a problem, though.

Bought her last summer, put a fresh change of Pennzoil in and drove about 1500 miles. It had to be from the prior owner neglecting her, poor girl.
