starter problems

Car used to start, now it wont. Swapped the battery, not the issue. Sometimes I'll turn the key and get a "click click click" and then others the solenoid engages and it won't crank. Tried hammering the starter (somewhat lightly, not much room under there) but no changes. Time for a new starter? New solenoid?
