starter whine

Since I got my motor going this time around the starter whines a bit. Once It 'locked up' and made this huge noise and I had to put the car in gear and let it roll a bit. What's puzzeling is I put it together as it was before. shims and all.
previously this never happened a bit. Perhaps there's a little 'wiggle room' when the bolts are loosened?
thanks as always

The starter bolts are bent a tad , try swapping them with each-other , sounds like definitely too tight need more shims . Tap the solenoid only out with 12 volts and see what the distance between the flywheel is .
