Thinning out the Herd

I have a 1965 GTO 4 SPD HT body that will most likely be selling next year. I tried to get PHS on the car but was told that the micro fiche for a small number of vehicles is missing (still have letter from PHS stating this) Data plate on firewall is an original non altered and indicates that it is was built in Pontiac Michigan and is a 5N car. With that said I cannot actually tell a potential buyer that it is a true GTO. This will obviously hurt the vehicle's value. Would this automatically throw my car into a LEMANS value category? Car does not have original 389 or trans. Currently has a 73 455 sitting where the 389 should be. Rear is out of a Chevelle. Interior is correct and original down to correct buckets, upholstery door panels, etc. dirty and looks like more than one mouse called this car home. Any ideas what this vehicle might be worth? Thanks

Pics are a must. Does it run and drive? Is it complete? If it is a non-runner and a partial basket case, and needs a lot of restoration work--- even if it is a real GTO, it's not worth a lot in this economy. If it is a runner, and rust free, you may have a 6 to 8k car.

That's a tough one. Even tho you don't have the PHS stating it has the GTO option, you do have the data plate that sez it's a GTO. Only 2 plants designated 5N for the GTO, Pontiac is one of them.

What will bring the value down anyway is the non original drivetrain. Kind of a mish mash of parts, which is fine. Mines the same way except they're all pontiac components.

I really don't think you would be deceptive by calling it a GTO. Just explain to a potential buyer the situation with PHS and the 5N designation..... JMO

I agree with GTOGuy, post up some pics........

462ci, 4spd
Performer Intake, Mild Cam
Pertronix Ignitor III
Accel Super Coil, Accel 8.8mm Wires

Thanks for the replies. Just wanted to get an opinion on the PHS issue. The car is in storage and most likely won't have a chance to get any pictures until late summer.
