What is this?

This was found in the oil pan of a numbers matching 1967 GTO, what is it? The engine was rebuilt 30yrs ago.

Can you post a pic of the other side(S)? Looks like it's made of stamped sheet metal, like the same thickness/gauge as an oil pan or windage tray? As for what it is, I'm stumped. Too big to do any damage if it was sitting in the bottom of the pan, though!
