Heartbreak at the track tonight
An almost perfect night at the track. The humidity was a bit high, but the air was cool, something rare for Florida. Low 50's dropping to high 40's by the time we quit running.
The traction wasn't great, but the DR's helped a bunch. I actually beat another Camaro that was a heads and cam car that ran a 111 mph trap because I hooked and he didn't.
First run was a mess. Spun real bad so I lifted and the damn thing hit 2nd. So when I got back into it, it downshifted and broke loose again.I lifted and I ran up to 40 and got back into it so it wouldn't downshift, but by this point the run was done. Ran a Caliber SRT4 that also had traction issues. Net result was a 15.083 at 102.66 for the Camaro versus a 15.388 at 94.85 for the little Caliber. He actually had me at the 1/8 mile by a nose.
Second run I got some heat into the tires and the stuck good enough to get a 2.027 60'. My reaction time was .138. I was able to pull out a 13.085 at 107.48. My quest for the 12's was on.
I lost the next ticket, so the exact times aren't here but these are from memory.
Next run I got a 2.02x 60'. Reaction time was under .050. 13.008 at 107.5x
I can taste the 12's now.
Next run was a 1.991 60' and a reaction time of .024. I ran a 13.005 at 107.58.
Last run. I need 6 thousandths of a second to break into the 12's.
1.994 60' and a reaction time of .008. I ran a 13.004 at 107.58.
No 12's tonight.
I had 3/4's of a tank of gas. I also had my work boots and two jackets in the car plus my tire inflator, windex and paper towels. My guess is 20 lbs would have been more than enough to get me the 12 second slip I wanted.
I'm done modding. The car is exactly what I want now, deadly consistant and I can figure out the launch real good. I'm starting bracket racing for points and I think with a car that doesn't vary by more than a tenth and my lights consistantly being under .050 and enough below .020, I should be able to get some good wins and finishes and maybe win some money at it.
