Loss here, too, but satisfied never the less...

Making a pitstop off of I-95 north between D.C. and Baltimore on Wednesday -- otherwise I would have been way too early to my morning meeting. So I get US-29 north to pick up US 32 back over to I-95:

First there's a first gen Tiburon which I'm generally ignoring, MMYOB for the most part, trying to goad me into a race, but then an Audi RS-4 enters the hwy. 420 hp, AWD, the RS-4 was a possible alternative I was looking at when I purchased the Goat. It saw me, and took off like a bullet with the Tib lagging behind. The traffic was thick, and the RS was jinking in and out through traffic, and before long he was doing at least 140mph if not more once he got clear of the pack.

I just sat back a watched. I wasn't going to blast through traffic like that. Besides, being from Va., with the new "abusive driver" charges -- even though I was in Md. at the time, I just don't want to cause an unnessary wreck with other "innocent bystanders".

Pretty amazing car (the Audi, certainly not the Tib), but at $72K, I'm quite happy with my 20 hp less for $40k less.

Would have been fun on a closed track, but I let it go...

Oh, and the Tib hadn't a chance against the Audi.

not bad. there's a modded s4 around here that is pretty good competition for a stock goat but anything modified is a quick kill. at one time i thought it was an rs4 also. i agree with you sometimes you do have to adjust your drivering to the conditions and situations. i've slowed down too and when i first saw that s4 i didn't run him either due to 1) night time and 2) tinted windows. the second time there was a mass of traffic

I was headed home from picking my mom up, taking the 35S/410E interchange. In my rear view I could see the dark front-end silhouette of a BMW (halo headlights), couldn't tell if it was a new 3 or 5 series at the distance. That distance closed fast, and it turned out to be an M5. He blew by at what sounded like 8k rpms. If I had been alone in the goat, it would've been on!

I think it's life in prison for having a radar detector, or might only be 15 years to life.

A friend of mine had his detector hard wired so that if the car is on the detector is on. I guess the police have detector detectors. He got pulled over even though he wasn't speeding. The cop made him disable it before he was allowed to drive on. If he would have refused the cop was going to impound his car. He also got a pretty big fine.

Make/model of the detector if you don't mind Fergy. My understanding is that a quality detector emits nothing and receives like a radio.

I think it was an Escort. Whatever it was, it was a better quality for the time. This goes back about 10-12 years so I'm not certain. I also remember Car and Driver doing radar detector test offs and checking to see which detector set off other detectors.

Got that right! Now, here I have a 400 hp car, but can't use it with these draconian laws. I'm SO afraid of getting a ticket, that I barely dip into the go-fast pedal anymore. Might as well get a Prius, fer chrisakes....

As I think about racing or driving fast it's not even worth it.
I live in New Jersey (Monmouth County) and a friend of mine went to court for a traffic ticket. She said there were at least 50 people in court. After all said and done everyone was walking out of the place paying no less than $400 for their summons. Is that crazy or what? The surcharges is what they nail you on.
