SRT8s Anyone?

Wondering about thoughts and experiences with any SRT8s? Namely has anyone run a 300C SRT8, Dodge Magnum SRT8 and what are your expectations for the Charger SRT8 (that one looks mean from the front btw).

Don't recall the published specs for the 300C off had but the specs for the Magnum puts it a couple tenths slower than the Goat because of heft. I thought I was heavy, I believe these three are all over 4100 lbs.

I torched a Dodge Magnum the other day who kept riding the rear and apparently torched a big Lexus LS and Chryster Pacifica by default because for some reason they thought that they could join the fray. I looked up and realized they were all trying to keep up. Funny. Ironically, moments later a Dodge Magnum SRT8 pulled onto the highway behind and just paced me at about two car lengths or so behind me. He didn't even once try to run but the guy in the regular magnum with his 19's blinging went all out. LOL.

Oh, I also took down a sunset orange Z. Truth is, there isn't much excitement in that since these are all easy but I must admit that I find joy in making quick work of performance sedans (ala Maxima, Lexus, Acura, Bimmers, etc) that try to play with the big dogs. I am more of cruiser and if it weren't for the real life performance stats of my goat one would say I'm a poser since I rarely hunt around here as the competiton really doesn't run. Equally matched cars racing on the highway is disaster waiting to happen. But I do like to take the "inferiors" down when they insist on riding my rear on rudely blowing by and then cutting close in front of as if I'm driving a slow hoopty or something. Perhaps I responde at times to these folkis because these are easy, safe kills and I'm adverse to triple digits speeds. Had a close call up there and don't like to go there much anymore. That isn't being a bully is it?

Anyway, what have you guys seen, experienced or say about the SRT8s? Nice to see all that performance on the road and the goat seems to get much respect from the competition it seems (Saleens, Cobras, Vettes, etc). Just your friendly neighborhood dump truck, van, soccer mom, grocery getters, performance sedans and the like that wanna give it a go. I get amazed sometimes by the women in camry's and the like that put their front in at the sound of the GTO. Ricers don't count.

Oh well.

SRT8 300 and Charger weigh in at approximately 4200 lbs, but they do have 25 more horses & 20 more lb-ft and a gearing advantage. Overall they do the 1/4 mile in the low 13's, very close to the '05 Goat (SRT8 Magnum is 150 lbs heavier, so it does it in the mid 13's).

BTW, Chrysler just announced the pricing on the SRT8 Charger at 36K - That's an undeniable deal (and I personally think that it looks bad ass regardless of it being a four door).

I ran a 300 C srt8. First time was from a roll, 60-100 or so. I pulled a bit more than a car length on him. It was very close. Then we ran from a light. He got me to about 60, better launch, and then I slowly started pulling on him. They are fast.

You must be talking about their new 6.1 litre.....Dealer here hasnt taken delivery of any with the 6.1, gonna test drive 1 for GP when they do.....But as far as the reg. Hemi, my neighbor has a magnum srt....The slowstang hangs better than Magnum from my experience....But that just makes it the first to lose

If we're talking about an 05 goat here then...

The bottom line for all 3 would be that they are good competition. They have a lot of power under the hood, but unfortunately they're just too heavy. The goat should -all things equal- walk away from them. Not too fast mind you but the goat should still win.

And yes, the new Charger SRT8 looks much nicer... but it's still crap

Thanks for all the sharing of experience and the great replies. On paper it does look like the GTO should start to pull on them at some point because of weight. Just don't have the real world excitement to prove to me otherwise.

Agreed, they good performance matches all the way around. The roads sure are quite interesting these days with all the BIG horsepower being unleashed LOL.

I'm still waiting for a supercharger package for the GTO 6.0 LS2. I want a stealthy 500+ crank HP to cruise around with...eventuallly.

Don't wait too long.. chances are unlikely I'd say. I doubt GM would be willing to let the GTO compare too much with what has always been their flagship car... the Corvette but more specifically - the Z06.

Yeah, I hear ya. Didn't expect much from the manufacturer. Looking at the aftermarket, I'm only seeing applications for the LS1 o4 GTO's and nothing for the LS2. I've seen some options for headers and such and even the MTI and Linkenfelter (sp?) packages but no middle of the market blower packages like I've seen for the 04's.

Have I not looked hard enough?

I think an '05 GTO would also drive away from any SRT-8 for aero reasons as well. Can't imagine that big eggcrate grille allowing for a better aero number than the GTO's .31.

BTW, have never seen an aero number for the Mustang. Since the Ford GT is over .4 -- who knows what it is. All I can say is that the upcoming Shelby better have 450-500 hp -- because it's going to need every one of them to push that barn door through the wind.

Interesting point indeed and I guess at triple digit speeds that should be the case. The fact that they are about 400 to 500 pounds heavier doesn't help either. Like our 500 lbs of extra heft over the C5.

But that
