Yugo vs GTO

My friend and are were doing some bench racing and he thought his 89 Yugo would run about heads up with my 05 GTO. His car is much lighter, his 4 cylinder is not burdened with conditioning. They must be pretty fast, I have yet to see any in the kill section. I know they are way underrated as potential street monsters. They are going up in value too. You can double their value by filling the gas tank.

The classic 89 Yugo has always been my dream car. I do not think they are to be trifiled with.

Should be a pretty close race, but I think if you put it in "Drive" or any forward gear you should probably take him.

One good thing that hes got going his way is he's got the 4 cyl instead of the 3 cyl

The Yugo......

......is an orphan.....They abolished the country where it was thrown together.

One Yugo advantage.......They become lighter with age because of being rust buckets!

I worked at a Ford Dealership in Ft Wanye IN in the late 80's that also sold Yugo's. I can personally attenst to their near worthless automotive qualities. When delivered, they did not have the shifter or steering wheel attached from the factory - that was one of my jobs. We inserted a metal rod through the steering shaft to steer them off the delivery truck. I do not know their performance figures, but they would get crushed by Ford Escorts of the day. My mountain bike has bigger tires than what came on those cars and my a-- would itch form the buzzing vibrations transmitted throughout the cockpit. Pretty sweet ride.

I'd be mostly concerned that the Yugo would burst into flames next to the GTO. Of course that would only be an issue until you stepped on the gas!

My buddy had a Yugo back in the day. He put some sweet 13" rims on it and it would do 0-80 mph in exactly 30 minutes.

It would do 80? SWEET!!

But I wouldn't mess with him. Those things are beasts. A buddy of mine has an stock 82 Civic DX. That thing owns me hard core, and the badass around town thats always flaunting his Yugo in everyone's face called him out last week.

We were out at the meet, and the Civic had his hood popped, runnin' his mouth. Sergei (with the Yugo) comes over and challenges him to a 7 roll. Angela (its a dude, his parents didn't like him though) in the Civic tells him rolls are for wusses and says a dig or nothing. So they go out to "the spot" and line em up. Angela backs up as fast as he can and slams the automatic into first to do his burnout. It stalls. So they line up... Sergei had to yell out the window because both their horns were broken.

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEEEEP!" yells Sergei and they are off!! 4 minutes later, they cross the line a 1/4 mile down the road, and Sergei was 8 lengths ahead... well his car was a 1/4 mile back, but you shoulda seen him running with the front bumper in his arms!! That dude can move!!

I can't run near as fast as Sergei can, so I wouldn't mess with that Yugo if I were you... those guys have strong legs!

Here is a video of a Yugo racing through the mountains, by the end of the video I dare say he was running well over 100.

Fast Yugo
