30k Mile Check

I just picked up a 2006 GTO and it looks like it needs a 30k mile check. Would you guys suggest going to the dealer for it($400), or would you suggest somewhere else? Thanks...

Just got my 2006 with 32,000 miles on it. Took it to a mechanic that I use and had the auto tranny serviced and a check of suspension, etc. They changed the diff grease and checked the brakes and did an oil and lube. They had to take the engine skid pad off to get to the oil filter. I didn't want to mess with this on the first go around and will probably change the oil myself from now on. Nothing special that a GM dealer would have done differently and probably cost less.

I do my own maintainence. That way I know the correct fluids/lubricants etc. are being used. Shouldn't have had to change the diff. grease at 32K. Did your mechanic use the proper synthetic gear oil and add the recomenned 1 oz. of friction modifier?

Change all the fluids and filters. This is simple stuff that you can do in your driveway. Check your suspension(should of done this before you bought it), and check your brakes as I bet they are about at the end of their life unless they were replaced already.

Just get an oil change for $50 - $60, if you're using synthetic, and the mechanic will "check" over your car... $400?

Those 25k mile check ups are a BIG $$ maker for the dealer.
According to the manual for a 25K check up:

INSPECT the following:
Filters: Exhaust: Change auto fluid IF:
In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature
regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or higher.
− In hilly or mountainous terrain.
− When doing frequent trailer towing.
− Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery
− Uses such as high performance operation.

These are outside of the normal operation examples.

NEXT CHECK UP IS at 50K: It's the same as at 25K except change the auto fluid. IMO: If the auto transmission fluid is a deep red and the car is driven "normally" there is no need to change it that often. I personally think the changing it out that often is a peace of mind service.

400 dollars for a 35K check up is a rip off. There is no justification for this.

MOST reputable dealers perform a courtesy check of belts etc when the car is in for an oil change at NO COST. If your dealer is charging you to top off the air in your tires RUN from them. You can check your filters and belts yourself for free why pay a dealer mega bucks for this? If your car needs an oil change and a tire rotation of alignment then GIT R DONE. Leave your money in your bank account. The costs associated for many of those "service intervals" are designed to separate you from your cash and keep the dealership in operation.
