I bought a basket case 69 GTO with boxes of parts. I'm trying to identify what this ''shield'' is for
Can anybody tell me where it bolts up and what it does ?
thanks

Looks sort of like, but not exactly like, a piece that mounts to the inside of the driver side frame rail just ahead of the end of the back drive linkage. Is this car an automatic or a manual?

I was going to say (if I recall correctly) it is a shield/heat shield to protect the front brake line from exhaust heat. Looks similar, but not the same as one I pulled off my '68 Lemans. Just looked at it, but it is indeed a little different. It has a channel like yours where the brake line would run in and be protected and then can't recall exactly where it bolted or how - I'd have to look at pics or just fit it up to match.

Hmmm... My car is a 69 TH 400 car also. I don't remember that exact piece. The closest thing I recall is the shield for the speedy and parking brake cables on the lower firewall, driver's side.

Its called a "back lock dust shield." It protect the rod that goes from the auto trans to the steering column to lock the column in park.
