Proper ABS brake pad change

I am concerned about changing the brake pads on my 2006. I have read that bleeding the fluid off while resetting the caliper piston is essential to prevent damage of the ABS system.

Is there a thread here that I have not been able to find which goes into detail?

I have never changed brake pads on a ABS equipped automobile before, and I am trying to do some research before beginning the job.

Thanks
Michael.

On my car I released the bleeder valve before compressing the callipers to avoid possible damage to the master cylinder, but I have changed the brakes on many ABS cars without releasing it and never had a problem. I am just very careful with mine because of the way I drive it. The brake job on my goat took me 4 times longer than on my Subaru. It took me longer because on the goat I used antisqueak, threadlock, silicone paste on slide pins, inspect and double check everything, replace brake fluid and bed the new brake pads in.
