alternator surprise! how rare?

ok well here it is, im dealign with two age groupes on the old car, the original stuff and 1980's repalcement parts. well here in the past few munths my alternator has started sqweezing and i took the fan belt off thinking it was the water pump, the 1980s water pump so i took the belt off so i could spin it and see if it made a sound and nope no sound but the alternator did and bad so i found a rebuilt one at autozone its the ac one wit h55 amp output, well the suprise i found it that my alternator is the same part number has what my car had and the same output(37 amp) so i decoded the datecode to find it decodeds to being march 9th 1966, my car has a build date of may of 66. my car has neve been let sit a logn time and has been a driver its hole life and now has almost 170,000 miles( it had 120.000) when the engen was rebuilt in the 80s and it still has the original alternator, how rare is that for a car this old? are all the alternatos that strong or did my car just have one that was pefect?

It's possible that a previous owner had it rebuilt. I rebuild mine all the time. As long as it doesn't burn out a winding or diode, the bearings and brushes are about all the maintenance it needs for a long time.
