Damn You, AutoWeek!

They keep putting really, really cool cars on their cover, making me pant and stuff.

The latest-- The Porsche Cayman S...sort of a Boxter for men. I can't afford it now, but maybe when the GTO has 200k miles on it...

Here's a blurb from Autoblog:

Quote:
Here it is, the long awaited Cayman. 911, 959 and Boxster all blended into one. The Cayman will be a performer chalking up 0-60 times in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. The 3.4-liter boxer engine delivers 295 horsepower and 255 ft lbs of torque. Sales start in mid January at a price of $58,900 for the Cayman S.

You see the letter to the editor where a guy got so frustrated shopping for a Mustang GT he went and looked at a GTO -- and totally loves it? BTW, the Cayman does look nice -- but, once again, at a price...

Oh well, to each his own. It's okay but nothing special. Especially for $60,000+ when the total numbers are calculated.

What numbers? 0-60? 1/4 mile? HP?

Acceleration is very important, be sure, but more important is how the car handles. Does the car inspire confidence to push it a little harder out of the next curve, or does it wallow like a harpooned narwhal?

The GTO does a pretty respectable job thanks to the IRS (and is a far better-handling car than iron-axle dinosaurs like the Mousetang and the F-Body)...but it still ain't no Porsche.

Total numbers as in the price of the car. Invoice, tax, license, fees.

Will a luxury tax be placed on that price too?

The luxury tax is like asking Ron Jeremy to step aside to let John Holmes finish the job. You get screwed by the dealership for the price of the car then you get screwed even more with this dumb ass luxury tax . God, I'm glad I make minimum wage so I can't afford to receive double boinking .

welll you can do what I did and register your car in another state, here in VA we have a Personal Property tax every year were they asses the value of homes and vehicals and send you a tax bill for it. My parents payd about 700.00 for PPT on there F250. To get around that I Registered my GTO at my Grandma's address in WI, I had to pay the extra 2.5% in sales tax but in 2 years I would pay the same amount in PPT, that and now I dont have to drill holes in the front bumper for a plate.
