Decision made Magnum parking next to the GTO

After looking at the models I had mentioned in my previous post, the wife and I have decided on the Magnum.

We drove an R/T with the 5.7 hemi. I like the room and versatility. It feels slow coming out of the GTO, but to be expected. Seems that they run low 14's, which is respectable.

The toughie is we also test drove a Magnum SRT8. Night and day different car than the R/T. The thing just moves, I honestly can't feel any SOTP differrence in power between it or our goat. I'd like to pull the trigger on it, but it's a little hard justifying the additional money. It's loaded to the hilt and so far the best deal I can find on one is 37K, which is about 7k more than the R/T we would want.

Runner up was the Impala SS. It kind of grew on me after initially not liking it, I took another one for a ride. Very nice car if you want a sporty sedan. Nice motor, and drivetrain. The FWD keeps turning me off though.

I will take the weekend to ponder. Ehh.... it's only money

You and me both but, pfffft to the flamers. I can't stand brand bigots anyway..they're all full of BS. I'd love to have a 425 hp easy low 13 second car to compliment the goat. I can honestly say it's an impressive car, minor things irk me a little, like no manual trans option, but every car has it's short comings. Honestly for a family car that can do all that 37k isn't really that bad at all. I may just do it.

If I had a family, I'd take a serious look at the Magnum too.

Plenty of room but still fun to drive.

Before getting the C6, I was contemplating trading my pickup and the GTO for a SRT8 Magnum just so I didn't have to have two vehicles. I have a lot of respect for anything that has SRT on it. Chrysler has done as good as BMW/M and Mercedes/AMG. GM needs to take notice, and WTF is Ford thinking by killing SVT?

I'll add another vote for "Get the Magnum". I've always liked station wagons (full size RWD ones, not those FWD mini-wagons that are shorter than the Goat). And a sexy looking, good sized RWD station wagon that has 425 hp to boot? I'd be on it if I were looking for an automatic (or didn't mind an automatic) and had that $$ to spend. And had room for another vehicle.. I can only have one though

From what you say this is for your wife, so what she wants comes into play. But if her reaction to the R/T was similar to yours--the disappointment may grow over time, and you may find yourself wondering why you got it.

Well, with a Magnum, at least you'll have room for your seeing eye dog in the back -- because anyone whose top two choices for a car are a Magnum and Impala has got to be blind.
