Yes and no. The initial person you talk to is in India or maybe Pakistan, that corner of the world. If you ask to speak to a supervisor you get someone that is over there also. If you become irate, or if the problem you have is one that is escalating, they send you to the US.

Sucks doesn't it!!!

A lot of businesses are using India for heldesks, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc.

Global economy folks. They can hire someone with a masters degree over there for $5.00/hr. With the internet, global 800 numbers, etc., there is no reason those services need to be in this country, unfortunately.

Food for thought.....When you phone your computer manufacturer for support, etc.... and are routed to India, Pakistan, etc.....

You are giving your personal information for verification purposes... right?
Addresses, names, SS numbers, many times credit card numbers etc....

Keep in mind you are routed to the area of the world where our enemies are.
How easy would it be for them to get our personal information....

The person you are trying so very hard to understand could be a member of AL-Quida, or a brother or cousin of an extremist....and they are funneling information to the bad guys. Maybe they are being paid for your information, or being blackmailed.....

Know where I am going with this?

So you get off the phone, and not knowing... Hapoo over there has all your personal information and passes it to his contact.. At the end of the day they have a sizeable list of people, their names, addresses, personal information..

Before you know it your name is on a list and you don't even know it. Heck we all could be on a list now... So why would they want our personal information??? Islam radicals.... NOT Roman Catholic Radicals, or Baptist Radicals...but Islamic Radicals are in the process of attempting to take over the world... their venom is spreading look at the news.... Their hatred and contemptible distain for the US and it's citizens is motivating them to want to kill us....

Ok, so they have our personal information.....well, our bank accounts, SS numbers, can help gain access in to our lives.. They know where you live, may know your bank accounts etc......

This is a very real and scary possibility..... I just wonder why this is not being touted on the news networks..... Paranoia perhaps???? So businesses farm work out to the mid east, low pay, etc..... how easy it is for them to obtain information on everyone of us.....

Think about it......

I worked for a call center company, they had centers all over the world. Xm radio used to be handled at 3 places, Toronto, Augusta Ga and Jamaica.

Toronto and Augusta were closed. Jamaica they kept open, in Jamaica they were ripping off peoples Credit card numbers, SSN and all kinds of info, was the biggest case of the type in Jamaican history. Was organized, supervisors on down.

After all this happening, they still moved all the call center work to Jamaica, this came out during thier decision to do it. Know a few hundered people lost thier jobs on that.

What's interesting about outsourcing call centers to Jamaica, India, Pakistan, Mars, Pluto, etc. is that American companies do this thinking they're going to save tons of dough -- but very few of them do.

Between the travel, horrific turnover, quality control problems (India's electrical grid is a joke), international legal issues and huge hourly markups on talent (Ahpu makes $1 an hour, yet the outsourcing company marks that up to $6), etc., you end up losing a lot of the hourly cost savings.

My wife runs consumer services for a really big company -- ran an analysis on it -- and said no way. And management was really, really pushing her to do it, too. She just stuck to the numbers and kept any bias and emotion out of it.

A lot high-tech companies get caught up in that. "Ooooh, let's outsource to India, it's cheaper." They're so ego-driven to build a "global enterprise" they frequently forget to apply common sense to their decisions.

What's interesting now is that India's job market is so strong companies have to grant huge raises just to get butts in seats -- so, long-term, things may indeed simmer down a bit.

Oh, yeah. You're right. The turnover's so great -- you have to have a huge number of people in training all the time. There's turnover in the States -- but nothing like over there. And, because the "big Boss" is a few thousand miles away, people get tempted to cut corners and throw people who are "good enough" out on the floor...
