Hopefully your five-speed runs at less than 2,000 rpm in fifth gear. I went with custom headers to work around the typical header problem -- the low-hanging passenger side header under the engine. As you can tell, I am not much of a wrench. Good luck.
Hello, I finally got my 3.55 gears in and with the Richmond five speed which has fifth gear of 1to1 just like a muncie four speed I am turning about 3000 RPM like you said you were with your old muncie. I am unsure why any one would put in a Richmond five speed with a 1to1 final gear ratio but that is what came in the car. Anyway, it has really woke up the fun factor from my old 2.73 gear ratio. The old gear set up was orginal and the teeth were chipped and worn on the ring and pinion gears. So it was overdue for a rebuild. The next project is to replace a set of old painted style hooker headers that are really rusted. I am thinking of going with the Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers, any word on these or any others that you know of that go on easy? From most of the posts I have read on headers for this year GTO they are no fun to put on. Thanks for your help, 307-734-1923. [email protected] Mike Shidner
