History
I bought my '68 GTO in 2017 from an old Air Force buddy that bought it in 1990. He bought it in Texas, and drove it to Illinois. I bought it in Illinois, just across the river from St Louis, and drove it to Sumter, South Carolina. It was painted black sometime before 1990, and it's April Gold under that one coat of black. It's wearing a '69 LeMans deck lid for some reason which is also April Gold underneath a single coat of black paint which is currently peeling off, like the rest of the black paint all over the car. Modifications
Drivetrain
Original 350hp, VIN stamped 400, that runs great. Original Muncie wide ratio 4 speed transmission that's hard to get into third gear sometimes, and the original 10 bolt rear. gears were 3.23 posi, as it's an A/C car, but the GTO's posi gave out some time before 1990. My friend that owned the car since '90 never tore into the rear end and when I shelled out the pinion gear, I found a date code correct 3.23 ring and pinion in a non date code correct open carrier, so I'm guessing it had posi, and then had it's ring and pinion installed in an open carrier. I couldn't find a set of 3.23 gears, and installed a used set of 2.93 gears in that open carrier.
Interior
None, still original Parchment bench seat interior, all in bad need of restoration.
Exterior
None. Needs body and paint work.
Audio
AM radio that doesn't work, and an aftermarket under-dash 8 track player, that does work.
Suspension
stock, original.
Wheel and Tire
15" rims, I don't think they are original to the car.
