Shift boot top has a flat side, does anyone know which side (top, bottom, left, right) it faces? (Bought from Ames, they don't know.)

Can't seem to get boot to cover hole in console while shifting; restoration guide refers to a shifter lever opening cover that goes above the boot but Ames says nothing goes between boot and escutcheon, any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi 65GOATGuy,

Assuming you are you using the correct console boot (1st picture), it should fasten to the trans tunnel housing with the shift boot retainer (2nd picture). The narrow gap of the boot - top (picture no. 1) faces the left side of the console shift tunnel insert. The boot seals up against the console shifter tunnel insert.

Picture no. 3 shows the correct fit.

Pictures no. 4 & 5 are for use without a console.
