I'm sure that I'm not the first person to have this happen to and need a solution to get it stopped.

I have a 1965 GTO that I have just finished the restoration on, and have totally worked on repainting and cleaning up my Rally I wheels that have the standard chrome ring around the bead and then this chrome dish that fits in the center that the lugs are supposed to hold in place when running the lug up along with the normal grab on's once you pop it in place prior to mounting the wheel.

My problem that over the years these holes have "wallowed out" and the lug slips by the hole and snugs up the wheel just fine, but over time these dishes rattle like crazy because there nothing drawing them up against the rim.

Does somebody have a solution for this such as rubber type boot that fits over the stem and as you draw up the lug the whole thing compresses down filling up the hole around the lug and keeping that dish from rattling.

This all seems goofy to me but what is everybody else doing to solve the problem because as far as I can determine in calling all the parts houses there's nothing commercially that I can buy to solve this.

The original Rally I caps never were held tight by the lug nuts. No contact with them at all. The caps snap onto the lugs on the rim. If they are loose, some careful massaging of the inside contact area of the caps might help. Or, you could try to build up the lugs on the rim with a bit of weld and some finish grinding. The original caps simply pop on and off with all the wheel lugs tight and in place.

The aftermarket center caps utilize a 3 lug retainer to hold it onto the rim, Maybe you can source some and use them on your OE ?
