Hi forum,

Just wondering......I bought a APDI radiator(150 bucks) for my GTO. Will it do? I think it is a 2 core. Quality/price seems reasonable....?

I dont do any `thrashy` driving....just normal cruising...

Let me know what you guys do.....and use....

things I think about on warm running Pontiac engines

a quality waterpump with correct cast iron impeller
with
a correctly clearanced divider plate
and
the factory shroud and gm fan
and
a quality thermostat
properly working distributor /timing
correct pulleys
and of course other items

outside temp your driving in ,,, ac car ? big tranny cooler out front

that radiator might be fine .....

Yes...I agree totally. All the the other items(water pump, thermostat, etc) I have bought for the engine are ACDelco.

The reason I ask about the radiator is, I have read (on this forum and others) that even though you buy an expensive rad, you may still have cooling problems.........just wondering....

Sure...I would like a Cold Case or equivalent....but are they better??

My car is a 4sp.....

Don't worry so much. You bought it, so use it and go from there. There are many opinions and everyone has one. Someone may praise one brand and talk down another brand. Was it really the radiator or was it something else within the cooling system? Price does not always mean it is the best radiator. So just use what you have ordered and go from there.

Plastic? Did they misrepresent it and advertise it as aluminum? Or does it have plasict tanks and aluminum core?

Did you give it a try first before throwing out the baby with the bath water?

I have not thrown it out. I just didnt want to put the flimsy thing on the car. The grills are alu, but the rest is plastic.....

In retrospect...I should have bought a coldcase or similar. The verdict on the original rad was good.....so its going to get refurbished.

Today I purchased a Cold Case because I needed a radiator. I didn't get one with the project. A thorough test was done by a Performance Year (Ames) member and the Cold Case beat other options hands down. At $325 shipped with a lifetime warranty it's hard to pass up. Made in the USA with quality assured and looks as close to the original as possible, except aluminum. Paint black and no one would be wiser. You get what you pay for.
