Hey guys/gals:
As you can tell my my screen name I am more of a ford guy, but I have a chance to aquire a 1972 GTO. The body is in good shape, it has bucket seats, 4-speed, etc. The motor is out of the car and the car is sitting in the back of some guys yard. I think I could get the car for about $800-900. Is this a good deal? I have some of the numbers from under the hood.

So according to what you got on that data plate, it is the 7,565th 72 goat. Made the 4th week in March, in Atlanta, Georgia, 2door hardtop and was originally cardinal red. Now I would check the vin plate too, on the driverside dash, visible through the winshield. That will tell you what engine it originally had too. It'll be 2D37(T,X,or Y)2A175651. T for 400, Y for 455, and X for 455 High Output. If its a 455 or HO, snatch that baby up, if its the 400, still a good deal. But make sure you get all the engine parts, and find out if it runs. Cause it could be a costly endeavor to rebuild any of those engines to original. All that info is on Ultimategto.com.

Also check for rust around the back window, in the trunk, and under the back seat if you can, notorious rust places in those old goats.
