Saw the new 2010 SS engine, my only reaction was this...

Why? Why do they do these things? Who's idea was it to use a 30 cent piece of plastic to cover a work of art. Now, when the owner pops his hood, everyone can whooo at his V8 emblem cast in the plastic.

I hate these plastic engine covers used on just about every car now. They only hold heat in. They hide the good stuff and look stupid.

The American V8's hold such prestige in many other countries but only the Italians, along with other exotics seem to recognize the importance of a good looking engine bay.

The "Little Tikes" era of designers are here now so they think Plastic picnic tables under the hood looks good.

The plastic engine covers do more than just clean up the engine bay they also help quiet the valvetrain noise. Just like those Helmholtz silancers on the intake. They also let you know what engine you have underthere, who built it and what kind of car it is. GM figures that these plastic covers are more important than keying a keyway on the crank pulley:rolleyes:

That looks really cheap. Some cars have it done right, some don't.

When we were checking out the Lexus LS600 HL, I found this pretty hillarious...
