A Muncie M-20 was used in cars with a 3.55 gear on down. A close ration Muncie M-21 was used on cars with a 3.90 gear on up. Most cars had the M-20, which in my opinion is a better gearbox (lower first gear ratio). The '66 Muncie was the first year of the bigger, 1" diameter countershaft. It's stronger than a '65 or earlier box. the correct shifter for a '66 with bucket seats is an almost vertical, round shafted Hurst Competition Plus.
