I had an oddball 1965 A body that had a firewall stamped at the factory for A/C but it shipped without A/C. it had a normal dash with no A/C vents and a standard heater setup. in place of the openings in the firewall for outside and air upper air it had factory installed plates as seen in the pictures. have any of you 64-65 guys ever seen these before?

Not on a Pontiac. Buick may have done things different being a different branch of GM.

My guess is that it was special built "back in the day" and saw use in California smuggling drugs into the country from Mexico in those covered over pockets. Have you removed them to try and smell the cannabis aroma to confirm? :smilielol:

I sold that car long ago and now have a different one. I had heard from a pretty well travelled(old) Buick guy that Pontiac had used these also. I want a set to convert my current car from A/C equipped to non A/C equipped. these freakin things are harder to find that the lost city of Atlantis :frown3:

how'd you know it was a Buick? did the nailhead valve cover give me away?

Yes, along with the photo that says GS in the corner. At my show where were work on big truck trailers, we had an enclosed car trailer (a regular customer) who was hauling a restored 1965 Buick Riviera GS. Was told the asking price was $75,000. Could not look under the hood, but suspect at that price it might have been a 425 with the 2 x 4 option? It was like new.

When I was young, I used to buy/sell car parts to fund my car projects off of the profits. Once bought a perfect Buick 2 x 4 chrome air cleaner at a flea market for $10 and thought I was doing real well when I got $100 for it. But back then in the early 1980's, $100 was pretty darn good when you were only making $4.75 an hour. LOL

Your post will hang here for a while and then get archived, so anything is possible. Other may chime in.

Could you not have the block-off plates fabricated using your photos? I would think you could make some cardboard templates, have them cut out via a laser and then have those beads rolled to replicate that factory appearance. I have a fabrication shop that can do some top quality work at a reasonable price (my opinion, LOL). They have a CadCam engineer who makes the drawings to create the piece and then uses a laser machine to cut it all out via computer control.

Just an idea.

I may have been mistaken in my understanding, but I thought the OP was referring to the 2 small flat plates on the firewall above the heater/fan box?

Am I wrong? Never owned any cars with A/C up "north."
