I'm preparing to do a front drum to disc brake conversion on my 67 GTO. Can anyone recommend the proper coil spring compressor tool for the job?

Does anyone know if the brake line distribution block on the 4 wheel drum brake system will work on a front disk/rear drum system? I've heard that the distribution block for the front disk system is different however I'm unable to get an answer as to what exactly make them different. Thanks for any input.

I recently did the same swap you're talking about. You'll need to get a new distribution block designed for front disc/rear drum. The proportioning is different. As far as compressing the springs to replace the spindles, I had good luck with this:

Remove the shock, stick the treaded shaft down through the upper shock mount hole, then put the end of the tool with the 2 hooks up through the lower shock mount. Thread it together and you're ready to compress the spring. It's easy but just be safe about it. Make sure the lower control arm is supported with a floor jack. You'll want a jack stand under the frame too. This way you can lower the control arm once you get the spring compressed to get the spindle off.

What rukee said. Support the car on stands (good ones!), get a good solid bite with a floor jack under the A-arm, remove the top or bottom spindle nut. Once the nut is removed you'll need to whack the spindle good and hard with a heavy hammer to pop the tapered ball joint out. Slowly lower the floor jack until you have the room to separate the spindle from the arms. If it's easy enough you could remove both nuts from both joints before lowering. I also know that F body front springs can be swapped w/out a compressor. A crow bar or a long pry bar will pop em over the pocket on the lower arm and you can simply jack it up into place with a floor jack. Of course if you'd feel safer using one then by all means, go for it. If you work alone a spring compressor isn't a hateful idea either. If you're doing one side at a time, no need to undo the spring as well. Good luck and enjoy your new brakes, and for that matter the swap job too.

It's a perfect time to go ahead and change out those worn out springs too. The cost is low and you'll already have 1/2 the work done!
