Hello all, I'm confused about the oil dipstick tubing. My motor is not original but it is a 68 400, I bought the car in pieces and just starting to reassemble. I just realized ac cars have a third upper dipstick tube that mounts to the ac bracket? I cannot find that anywhere in my parts. My question is how do I press the middle tube into thr block to make sure the upper tube angles correctly towards the ac bracket? I also don't think there was a windage tray in the motor when I tore it down. The motor was loosely assembled with hardware store bolts so they may have forgot to install. Do I need one?
Thanks

Will you be installing the original style A6 compressor and its mounts? If not, there won't be a place to attach the upper tube brace. A Vintage Air style compressor is much shorter and the new bracket mounts it way forward of the dipstick and you are better off using the non-AC dipstick and tube.

This is how the upper tube goes in. Mine is a little wonky around the a/c bracket, but I think it’s generally right. I have a ‘69 compressor bracket on my ‘68 for better spark plug access, but the mounting position is the same.

The lower tube slides into the block tube and is held in place by the windage tray. The block tube is pressed in from the inside of the block.
