im trying to convert my automatic to a manual. not sure if my pedal cradle is correct. i have the correct pedals and the neutral safety switch. If i place the switch in the upper rear hole where does it bolt too. Any pictures would be of great help.

Maybe a dumb question but why do you need a neutral safety switch for a manual trans, never heard of that.

Keeps you from starting the car in gear.
Thats what i was afraid of. i have the auto pedal bracket. i guess i need the man bracket or forget the switch.

I have a thread up, about the pedals, in the FAQ section.

Tread very carefully in this area! A few big name sellers, market Chevelle pedals as compatible, and they're not!

GTO's had a bolt to hold up the pedals and Chevelles used a fixed shaft. It's a very tricky area.

Didn't know that, I guess it's just force of habit to push in the clutch before starting or make sure it's in neutral.

Yes, but that's not how the factory saw it.

The 68 models didn't have a neutral start either.
So when looking for parts, make sure they're 69-72

And for the record, if you get a high torque starter and you don't install the neutral safety switch, then you can start the car in gear and run it like a hybrid

Many years ago I made it home across town when the clutch rod on the '67 came off and I would start it in gear and chug away from the stops. Never felt the need to have the idiot switch on the GTO clutch pedal but maybe some need it. I guess when the clutch rod broke the clutch pedal went to the floor so I could have still made it home since the switch would have been happy.

I have had two newer manual transmission cars where the clutch safety switch went bad and I was stranded until I got under the dash and twisted the wires together bypassing the switch.
