Ok, I've got a question for folks who are the experts on 'correctness' out there:

69 GTO, tail panel paint - the area between the tail lights that's "mostly" visible only when the trunk lid is open - I've seen them done two different ways: one with a flat/satin black, the other with body color. I know that my car, originally painted Palladium Silver, was black in this area. However I've seen other paint jobs, usually in the darker colors, that were body color. Here's the question: where they always done the same way from the factory, or did the factory only use black on certain body colors (perhaps only the "lighter" ones?)

I'm not overly concerned with correctness myself, I'd just like to know how they were originally done.

I'm including two photos I found, one done each way.

Thanks,
