I have a problem getting my alternator belt aligned . The alternator needs to come out about 3/8"-1/2" in order to be corectly aligned with the pulley. I am using all the factory pulleys and factory alternator brackets. I tried using a double pulley on the alternator, but it sticks out too far.I am using an aftermarket 80 amp internal regulator alternator. I thought of putting a space behind the pulley, but I dont think I can move it enough to fix the problem.

to me .....
it looks like the
wrong water pump pulley
whats the number on that one ?? 481040 ???

looks like you need a longer power steering belt also ....

does the crank and water pump line up now ???
if so you probably have the 481038 and 481039 crank pulleys
you need the 68-70 ac crank pulleys 9799142 n 9799143 and water pump pulley for ac 9799128
to match your 67-70 power steering pump n brackets and your 70 only top alternator bracket

if
your using the 11 bolt timing cover
with
a 4.5" pump
[/QUOTE

Scott : Here is what I have :
#481040 2 groove Waterpump
#481038 2 groove Crank
#480509 1 groove Crank
The two Crank Pulleys were stacked on Crank ?

I have one spare Pulley: #10004850 2 groove Waterpump

Question : Does the Crank use 2 or 3 grooves with AC ?
The part numbers you gave me are only available as a full set for $500. I don't see anybody selling these used Pulleys.

Yes, I am using a 11 bolt 4.5" Waterpump.

Please Advise.

Ok I ordered those two pulleys from ebay.I will check my power steering pulley tomorrow.Thank you for your help.
It amazes me how few people know anything about these cars. Most people I know with 1970 GTOs, know nothing about building them or repairing them.TC

Are you saying a 1970 power steering bracket Is different than a 1971 ?
theres the clue !!!!!
1971 GTO 71 used the 71-78 style power steering pump n alternator brackets and pulleys

you are using =your 70 power steering pump ,.,,, n brackets that dont line up with 71 up pulleys
I have no idea what your ps pulley is from please double check the number seems wierd some one would change
that pulley

The pulley is definitely #123307601. I have attached a pic. The Power Steering pump and bracket were on the car when I bought it. The engine is a 1971, so I am guessing all the accessories are 1971. I changed the alternator bracket to a 1970, thinking that was the right thing to do, but it looks like I stepped into a hornets nest.
If I buy a new power steering pump for a 1970, does it come with the pulley ? Is my power steering pump bracket ok for a 1970 ?

I have everything but the 9799128 water pump pulley. Is it made in the aftermarket ? I ordered #9799127 from The Parts Place, hoping it will work. They said this was correct for a air car They didn't show a pulley for non aIr ?

My car was originally a non air car, it has vintage air now .Is there a difference in the waterpump or crank pulley ?
