No disrespect to the Monaros, but I for one would like to hear about some classic GTOs kicking ass. Are the cars too valuable or the owners too mature to do that anywhere but the track anymore? What about Tempests, Lemanses, etc? It saddens me to think that most Pontiac A-bodies are driven at 55 mph and rubbed with diapers while Buick guys still tear up the road in their inferior Skylarks. And before the understandable question of why I haven't posted any, my '66 clone has a wheezy 2bbl 326 and a pegleg at the moment. Believe me, things will change once I get a 400 in it.

Hey man I have a 66 GTO full on racer that runs 9.30s @ 145.00,but i have a 67 GTO streeter that we race now and then.
With the car on the street no body can run with her. The motor is a stock 455 with a mild cam and stock 6x heads. At the track with open headers and slicks it will run 12.20s @110.00. This car weighs 3600lbs and has lots of torque (unlike ANY ricer) that makes it a ball to drive!

Several years back my wife took our 64 in town and tied into a new trans am. Our 64 is a 455+ she said the TA was a good running car but still no problem. Would have liked to been in the TA to hear if he thought it was a ole girl or an old car that smoked him....

Friend of mine and I were out in his SS396. He ended up at a light by a Honda. The guy reved and wanted to race.

The SS396 has been bored 30 over and has forged internals and is putting 425 to the wheels. He crushed the guy.

At the next light the guy said that he had a turbo Prelude that would destroy the SS. My friend said so, that Prelude is worth 6,000 and his SS is worth 25,000. Two years from now the Prelude is going to be worth 3,000 and his SS will be worth 30,000.

I was out cruising with my dad years ago in his 64 GTO convertible with the 455 when one of his friends rolled up on us in his GTX 440. We crushed the GTX! I tell you I love my goat to death but there is nothing like the pull from a 455 from a dead stop!

My 70 has a bunch of notches in its belt so to speak. One night years ago my brother was cruising around with his wife and kids in his 68 Coronet, wimpy 318 2 barrel but it sounded nice, me and my ex were in the 70. Back then I didnt have a LSD under it so I could only go about 1/4 throttle until 35-45 mph. While we are driving around we see a 70 Charger with the stripe and 440 on the side. My brother being the mopar gearhead type, and we have a 70 Charger in the family, we stop to talk.

Well my brother has to get his wife home after about 5 minutes talking to the guy. As we are pulling out I ask the guy if he wants to line up the ol 440 with my 455, and he says sure. So we head out to the local two lane with nothing but corn fields on either side, my ex gets out with out kid, and he is alone. We line em up and he gets about 2 lengths on me out of the gate, because I cant open it up without a huge smoke show. Once the ol Goat hooks I lay into the throttle and catch him and pass him before we go an 1/8th. I put something like two bus lengths on him. All he could say later was how it looked like he was standing still once I opened it up.

The 70 only ran mid 13.50s with the 2.93 highway gears and short shifting it around 4500 rpm but that isnt bad for a very mild engine in a 4100lb car and a stock converter. Now I am older and I dont do much more than accelerate up to the speed limit, usually that is enough though, but the ricer kids think the flyby is still a win. Pretty funny if you ask me.

My T37 is going to get raced quite a bit when its done. Grandma fresh looking, bench seat, column shifter, tires with the white wall out, and quiet mufflers. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I had one of those guys in a Challenger pull up along side of me and gunning the throttle on and off. Sounded just like a 318 2bbl! I was doing like 35mph in 3rd so I down shifted to 2nd, tached it up and side stepped the clutch lighting up the tires for about 40+ feet and let off. He just looks over, dropped his jaw and backed off the gas and took the next corner. lol
