under wot 3rd gear feels like it has a plate.

my car is a 46k 05 m6. clutch holds fine, but 3rd gear just does not want to go in. i have to do it slowly and then pop it in. i hate it. friend of mine said if i swap the master cylinder and the shifter out ill get a butter smooth transition. anyone that can verify this?

im not a pro driver but im decent.. my last car had an aftermarket clutch and a sts, so i was very good with it, but this is my first rwd car and i had a very tough time.. launching got a bit easier but not being able to get in 3rd all night made it a tough night.

i also noticed that that clutch fluid was under the min line as well. my last car got it directly from the brake fluid so i never had to worry about that. needless to say, im not going to the track again without my next mods that im ordering this weekend

clutch, shifter,pacesetter lts, and a master cylinder.

Completely normal. You need a GMM Ripshifter. Happens to me 2 out of three runs. They actually advertise that you will "never miss 3rd gear again".

I now have 20k on mine and it has done that since new.

I had a B&M on mine and had issues. It shifted great, but the bolts that held it in place kept coming loose.

Never heard anything bad about GMM. That's the shifter to get.

GTO is a great car. Not sure why you'd ask if anything works. Also remeber you're not dealing with a car that has 150-200 lb ft of torque too. With the power and torque the car makes, coupled with the weight of it, it takes substantial pieces to hold up to drag racing.

Also didn't help that you didn't check the clutch fluid. At 6 years old you should have changed every fluid in the car when you bought it. I know when I buy a used car that's the first thing I do. Brake fluid every 3 years, clutch every 3 years and rear end every 3 years. Coolant 5 years max, power steering fluid 5 years max. Fluids are the life blood of the vehicle.

bought it from carmax. they do a really good check usually. and since i didnt know the clutch had a separate fluid fill i didnt think to look until i got weird issues at the track. needless to say, when i get the clutch and headers installed ill have the chance to get the stuff done. ill be doing brake fluid when i get a new rotor and brake setup so thats next. hopefully by 50k ill have everything changed including plugs.

my last car had about 300whp and 300whp. i had a turbo cobalt.

its just a bit nerve racking when looking at parts for the gto and there's so many failure rates.. b&ms no good, hurst's going limp

b&m and hurst are pretty much top of the line for cobalts in the shifter department.the vendors for them dont sell parts that fail as often as ive seen for these two companies on gto shifters. if there is an issue like that the people dont buy the products anymore.

i dont mind spending the cash. i just want to do it once and be done with it.
