Just picked up the rebuilt 1967 400 HO numbers matching engine for my 67 goat. Engine builder used black bolts for the intake manifold. Should I take them out and repaint them metallic blue as did the factory? I assumed they were to be blue but they may be acceptable as is. Any comments.
Also, it needed a new harmonic balancer, but that came black. Should I leave it black or blue. Are there any precautions in painting the harmonic balancer? I'm hoping to get some ideas and comments from you guys. I'm looking for it to look mostly original, but know it will never be original anymore. I'm also going to use the petronix igniter. I did purchase the AC Delco plugs and plug wires for that original look. Engine was in original condition before I brought it to the engine builder who has a very good reputation and is a good person to work with.

Shouldn't the guy footin the bill for this decide? Have you asked him? lol Anyway.... 6 one, half a dozen the other if you want my opinion. Gonna sell it? I fully understand and you know what to do if that is the case.

The bolts and balancer came painted engine color, and were painted after the engine was assembled. I'd A: leave it alone, or B: do what Eric suggested.

If it were mine and it's as close to original as it sounds, I'd paint the bolt heads with a brush and mask and spray the balancer before installing the pulleys.
