On my way home from work today I was passed by a silver C6. It was a beautiful car, but as the guy drove by he gave me a look. So I caught him and paced him for a bit, he nodded and hit it. He got a jump on me of about a fender, but from about 65 to around 95 we were dead even, when I hit 4th he pulled about 3/4 of a car on me. I never would have thought it would have been so evenly matched. I am assuming he had an auto, but it was fun anyway.

You caught the Vette right where it's a good race. Below the 60 mph point his weight advantage kills you and above 95 his aerodynamics kills you.

Would have loved to see his face when he realized you were right there with him.

Nice run!!!

Wow I didnt think our GTO's could do so much to c6's ... nice one man!:cheers
He hit about the only spot where the GTO will run fairly close to the C6. If both cars are stock, the C6 is a half second quicker through the 1/4 mile. About 2 tenths of that is going to happen in the first 100 feet because of the traction and weight advantage the C6 has. That will be about 35-40 mph. from there to 90 or so the weight saps another tenth or 2 off the GTO. Each tenth is equal to about 1 car length up to about 100 or 110. At the end of the 1/4 mile, the C6's aero advantage is starting to come into play. The C6 has opened up another 1 to 2 tenths and is about 5 or so car lengths ahead.

Above 130 the C6 has a huge advantage because of the aerodynamics and will really start pulling on the GTO.

There is that sweet spot though, between 50 and 90 or 60 and 90, where the 2 are pretty equal. Add in that most C6 drivers won't give the GTO the respect it deserves and you could end up with a short run upset. If he's ready for you though, it'll be a W for the C6, but still be close.

Happy hunting.

I have tried several times to get my buddy to run me with his 2001 Z06, but he keeps refusing. After this encounter I am thinking I may have a shot. Anyone else run the 385 HP Z06?

I had an 02 Z06 with the 405hp LS6. I was able to pull a 11.501 with it with only a tune DR's and an intake. An 02 and up is almost a full second faster than the GTO and will eat it's lunch. The 02-04, even though they are only rated 20 hp more has more like 30 more hp at the wheels then the 01 and are 4 to 5 tenths faster.

A good friend of mine had a 385hp 01 Z06 up in Pittsburgh. He was an avid drag racer. I had an 02 Z28. The Z28 was modded and would have been a good run for a stock GTO. My best with the Z28 was a 13.001 (ins't that a killer). My best with the GTO was 12.895. Typically here in Florida, my Z28 ran 13.2-13.3. My GTO typically ran 13.1-13.2. Dominic was able to get a 12.495 on the same day I got the 13.001. As a mater of fact we raced each other that run.

The 01 Z06 is a good 1/2 second faster than a GTO. From a dig he'll crush you and never look back. If you can catch him in that same range, about 55, you'll have a shot of hanging with him, dropping back a car or car and a half, till you hit 4th at around 90-95. Then he'll give you the Corvette wave and walk away.
