Anybody know for sure how the '64 taillights were painted (or not) from the factory?

I specifically remember driving my car back in the late 60's or early 70's and thinking how great it would look if the whole taillight bar was colored red so it looked like the lights went all the way across. However, I don't know for certain if that's because the red just wore off in the middle section or it wasn't painted red originally. Looking at the photos in a recent Hemmings article they are all red but I'm not sure that's correct. Good looking but is it correct?

According to Concours Judges and restorers, you are correct. This is one example. But, I found more.

Thanks. This makes sense: "All the '64 Lemans/GTO's were painted, but the factory paint wore off very easily."
