Since I do not know the car well, I did not know if it was my imagination, or the brakes on Dads 69 Goat, are bad. Car is all drums, no power brake, and DOES NOT STOP !!!! I put the car on stands today, and the inside of the drum parts look just perfect, BUT, the front brakes simply do not stop at all. The rear brakes are just fine. None of the drums gets stuck at any time, all four cylinders release the brakes beautifully, but the front brakes I can rotate the drums by hand even when my son pusses the brakes hard, and he is no kid. I suspect the Distribution Block clogged or stuck.

If the car sat, you need to flush and replenish the brake fluid. At that time, if theres a leak, it should show up as well
Yes, and a total brakes project in itself has become part of the deal. I am brainstorming about it. If I keep the car myself, I will put better brakes on it, and preserve and save all the original parts. I am even considering giving up on the resto project altogether. Reality hits us like a brick when we go under the car and feel the first rusted bolt that wont loosen up, all to end up having a powerfull car that has to be driven like a School Bus full of precious children not of your own blood. I am no car collector, and I will not have a car just to show it off, or to have it sit in the garage, matter fact I hate that. It will be ridden daily, or I pass on it. There is where I stand now, already on the re-talks with my Family. Disc brakes, or I pass.

Very sad to hear... but you know your abilities and finances, far better than us.

The world is filled with "classic cars" rotting in backyards, in barns, and under blue tarps... FOR A VERY VALID REASON!

Like I always say, "if it was easy, everyone would be doing it".

So when you come to my county, and you see that Im the only 67 GTO on the road... it's because Im the only one in the county who wanted it bad enough and was willing to make the sacrifices, and "I could"... but many cannot.

There's no shame in admitting that a project is beyond you. In fact, that's a much smarter call, than taking on a resto that you cant handle.

Based on how you describe the car, getting it reliable as a daily driver, would cost about $15,000. And thats without any paint, body, or interior work.

Where are you, Johnny? I would be willing to come over and help. Takes me less than an hour to overhaul a set of drum brakes, all 4 wheels if nothing is frozen. Piece of cake.
4 wheel drums work just great on these cars. Been driving mine that way for over 40 years. They need to be in good shape, is all. There are a couple of tools that help with the spring removal, available at NAPA or on line. That way you won't have to use vice grips or ***** to remove and install the springs and cause stress risers on them. Youtube also is your friend. These are simple systems and very easy to work on. And we are here to help.

Yes, but if Johnny is actually in Cuba (as his avatar suggests), then @geeteeohguy would be giving a whole new meaning to the term "doing a guy a favor".
Yes. And I'm thinking if he's going that far, he can stop in Texas for a rest on his trip and help me with my brakes too.

No no no I am not in Cuba although I love Cuba, its Music, and its brutaly honest people, just like I am. I am a purebred Puertorrican, with all our loudness and happy crazyness. Our Flag is very much like the Cuban Flag as they were actually designed at the same time by the same Nationals who wanted Independence frm Spain, thus, the Flags are a mirror image of each other almost. I was in the US Navy for a few years and thats how I learned some english. I trully appreciate all the advise and offers, my Dad would have too, he was an Air Force guy. Thanks to all here, you are all super cool and honest, I love that !!!
