I was changing out the battery in my 1964 GTO when I accidentally crossed the wires - the ground was RED (I thought red was HOT) - anyway it was only connected that way for a few seconds, but smoke came out of the alternator! Did I burn up my alternator? Once I corrected the crossed wired she fired right up and I drove her for a few miles before putting her to bed and disconnecting the neg. Should I have someone check out the alternator??:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yep. It's a lot easier letting the smoke out than putting it back in. Have the alternator and wiring checked out to avoid a fire hazard.
