I just put in my front shock. The book says 90lbs. (seems like a lot,but ok)
I just cant seem to get there and suspect the shock "rod" is turning.....; I could hold the sucker with vise grips............
Are the dam things supposed to turn?
What to do?
thanks as always

For some reason 35lb sticks in my mind, vice grips would work or an adjustable wrench or a small wrench that fits the shaft end. Just did mine with the car on its tires, dont know if that made any difference but had no problems.

I always held mine with an adjustable wrench, while using an open end to tighten the nut down....90 lbs sounds a little much.......E

I do it like likethat and Bear. Done it thousands of times over my career, probably. 90 lbs torque? Sure, if you want to snap the shock rod in two. More like just snug with the bushings squeezed, as stated. They make a special socket (oval shape) that fits the shock strut. There are two sizes. You should be able to just run the nut down without worrying about it, though.
