My co-worker and I was on our way to pick up my work truck which is an International 4200. I was heading down RT 12 toward 2A and was being tallgated by Yamaha motorcycle. I told my friend to look behind me and check out the motorcycle. He said it was a Yamaha R1 which has 1000cc's and weighed about 350lbs. (He knows motorcycles and I don't). As I was comming to the turning lane to go onto 2A, the Yahama goes around me and cuts back in front of me. So now we are sitting at the light waiting for it to turn green. I reach up and turn the a/c off and my friend braces himself. The light turns green and we make the turn. We both jump on it and I guess he missed a shift because I saw his hand slip and I almost crawled up his *$$. The guy on the Yamaha quickly corrected his mistake and pops a wheelie and takes off like a bat out of hell. I hung with him for about 1.5 seconds and he started pulling away like I was standing still. Once I reached 100 mph, I took my foot off the gas pedal and slowed down. I am still in complete awe. I have never raced a motorcycle before and I have never been beaten like that before. My friend told me that those Yamahas can get up to 160mph real quick. I will never race one again.

Yeah, you should have known better. But even if you knew before hand what that bike would do, it's still cool to witness the power and speed of other vehicles out there. I know there is no way in Hades, my stock goat can out perform the new ZO6. But I'll still try to egg the driver on just to see how fast the Z06 really is.

My friend has one of those bikes. It is very quick! He also has a Pontiac Sunfire.. which is why he got the bike

That thing was quick. I did everything I could to keep up. My foot was to the floor and was shifting the gears as fast as I could.

Bluegoat......What were you thinkin?

Even a mid-sized bike has a power to weight ratio that no car can match. The big Japanese superbikes will make you look like you're standing still as you found out.

On the other hand, in the GTO you don't have to pick the bugs off your face at the end of a drive.

I knew I would get beat, but not like that. It makes me wonder if a bike like that can be beat by a car.

In high end A bike will never beat a car, The big bikes run the mid 8's and you can build a car for less that will stomp that. The drag cooeficiency kills bikes at high speed.

Umm ok. See my other post about being misinformed about bikes.

Most bikes are racing bikes and are set up for speeds below 160mph because most tracks are not big enough to get higher than that. A 1000CC bike will rip the hell out of most cars top end, but it is not geared past 180.. ask me how I know what the revlimter will get you in 6th gear on an R1. A hayabusa though can do over 200mph (but is factory limited now).

The other thing. A bike can do an 8 and still run a track. A car that runs 8's cant. Ohh and I can get a new bike in the 8's for a lot less than anyone can get ANY new car into the 8s.

I don't know where you are getting your info and bias against bikes from, but you should go take a MSF course and ride a little bit. They are great machines, a real blast. While the are fast, they aren't built for the 1/4, they are built to turn. And while there are cars that can beat bikes, they are cars that are purpose built racers.

But all of that is beside the point anyways. We bike guys ride bikes because we want to go out and have fun. To hit corners and feel blazing acceleration. To be free and feel one with the machine. I could have a car that ran 3's in the 1/4 and I would still rather be riding my bike. There is just nothing like it. :cool

Dunno, seems too dangerous for me, heh. Small mistake in car = scraped tire. Small mistake in motorcycle = lost limbs.

I have nothing against bikes. Everytime I see a Hayabusa my 3 inch killer stiffens and begins to drool. But personally, I'd like to see the fastest race-ready bike versus the quickest formula 1 car (McLaren-Mercedes this season) on a bike circuit. I think it would be a very good race with the formula 1 car winning. Check out the facts on a F1 car:

*At 100mph an F1 car can generate enough downforce to equal it's own weight. Therefore it would be able to drive on the ceiling !

*The carbon fibre brakes operate at almost 1.000 degrees centigrade.
They can provide 4 G of stopping power.

*A F1 car can get to 0 to 100mph and back to 0 in 4 seconds.

*A F1 car can generate as much as 5 G's in a corner.

*Most F1 engines can rev to over 17,000 rpm.

*A F1 car develops 700 BHP giving it a staggering power to weight ratio of 1300 HP per 2205 pounds. At 1213 pounds a F1 car is less than half the weight of a Mini.

Until we actually see this race I guess we'll never know but I still like the F1's chances.

There has been a F1 vs MotoGP race. The car won. :cheers

I wish I still had the video but it was a few seconds faster on a 2 minute or so lap. Good race. I love F1 cars, they are truly amazing machines. But until I can buy one for $10,000 I guess I am stuck with the second fastest racing vehicle on the planet. :seeya:

Of course like I said, there is more to riding than going fast anyways. There is a lot of skill involved in riding a bike vs driving a GTO. I love my GTO it is a great daily driver and fast. But my bikes are just different. I love touching a knee to the pavement at 140mph or more. On my R6 I feel like it is just me, flying over the road. In my GTO I feel like I am in a car... nuff said. :cool

I guess its just hard explaining it to someone that doesn;t ride. I know anyone can make a car run faster than a bike, but I hardly race straight line anyways. What impresses me is if someone can beat me through the canyons in a car. THAT is some good driving.

:cheers I'm with you on this one. I've been a fan of Formula 1 racing for many years. Simply amazing how these cars can rev up to 19,000 rpms and still complete a 2 hour or longer race. But the real kicker is the engines are normally aspirated. It sucks that some of the teams will be going to V8s next year while other teams will use a detuned version of their current V10s.

Yeah man, those F1 cars are AMAZING. I just love anything like that. The thing I don't like is it seems there are some bike haters on here, or they are grossly mis-informed but still feel the need to give us their un-informed opinions on things. I love cars and biikes, which is why I have a GTO AND a couple of R6s. I also love airplanes and helicopters (I am a licensed pilot, and have done a few Helo lessons) and have a coulple Personal Watercraft as well. I just love everything like that and thus I can't see why people hate on bikes. We all just want to have fun and enjoy our toys. :cool

While I don't like riding a bike (I keep wanting to go faster....) my friend and I raced 60 - 160, he has a sprocket and a couple of other things, the bike ran out of top end. I started pulling on him at around 95-100 and he couldn't catch me, I only pulled a little over a car on him @ 160 but it was fun as hell! He was impressed, and explained that R6's aren't really "top end" bikes.... :cheers

:agree I'm just impressed with anything that goes fast. I didn't think much of modded SRT4s until I saw one run built by Dyno-Works 11.1 in the 1/4. Recently GTODEALER said he saw a video of a SRT4 from the same shop that ran 10.7. Is it quick on a road course? Who knows? But I really don't give a sh!t. All I know is it's fast as hell in a straight line and I was impressed. At the same track, this guy ran 10.3 on a Suzuki GSX-R 1000. I don't know much about bikes but I think that's what a guy that was next to me said it was. Stock or modded I was impressed. Bottom line is, with the love I have for things that go fast, I don't care if it's a bike, car or motorized wheel chair. If it's fast, I give props where props are due.

Don't wonder too much. R1s go down in flames to cars here and there!
