So after a meeting with all persons involved, the owner, myself, and my 2 friend/helpers, we decided that the front should get lowered 2 more inches, but the rear may be OK, by just lowering the coilovers and inch. The owner wants a bit of a rake to the car. So off comes the body, and I'll cut the front kick up off, and reweld it 2 inches higher on the perimeter rails. Lots of gusseting, too!
We also took the opportunity to clearance cut the rear rails to accommodate the rear toe adjuster bars, and the trailing arm bolts, that might have hit when the car hit a bump. I put in some 3/16" plate to reinforce the rails where we made the cuts, too.

Body is back on and time to finalize engine fit. The raising of the front rails moved the engine up 2 inches. Not happy with that! But my friend Kenny had found a guy that moves the fittings on the Corvette rack from pointing straight up, to pointing forward. So the engine could come down lower. This would counteract the raising up of the engine. Now we could make the first part of the trans tunnel.
Used a piece of tubing bent around a Chevy bellhousing, and hammered some sheet metal around it to form the opening of the firewall to the trans tunnel. Extra material allowed me to continue the disrupted bead lines on the firewall.
To finish the trans tunnel, we needed the LT1 and 6 speed out of the Vette. Unfortunately, it was not cooperating! After struggling with the VATS (anti theft) system, we found the fuel pump was bad. Changed that out (I can adapt the new pump to the GTO fuel pick-up), but still no go. Finally pulled one of the injectors, and found all kinds of junk in it. So a bath in an ultrasonic cleaner, and they should function again.

Got the Vette engine running and all seems well! So out it comes, and into the GTO. Fits pretty nicely, but that 6 speed ZF trans is huge! Have to make a large trans tunnel for it, as well as a raised driveshaft tunnel. Mucho fabrication!

We are still working on the "Hybrid", though summertime puts a slowdown on things. Heat, humidity, vacation, etc. Finished the Trans and driveshaft tunnel, tried to find headers to fit the engine/chassis, finally got a set to work. The Vette LT1 has angle plugs and D Port heads, so header selection is very limited. Now I can design the steering linkage, to go with the Vette rack, and Flaming River steering column.
We also did some more fab/welding on the floor pans to fit the chassis, and got the owner to decide on exhaust. Going with the Vette type exhaust would have been cool, esp. with the 2 x 2 tailpipe extensions out back. But limited underfloor space, and the owner's desire to choose a custom design, led us to decide on putting functional side pipes on the car. I've got it all figured out, and we need to order a bunch of SS tubing, and mandrel bends.
Also had a chance to reinforce the chassis with a couple more crossmembers.
The biggest step forward was to get the tail lights in the car. We had already hammerformed the tail panel in 2 sections, so I just had to bend some flanged in them, straighten them out a bit, make tabs to hold the buckets, figure spacing, and weld them in. Had to make some small filler pieces at the bottom of the panel to quarter area.
Here's the stuff that will freak out the GTO purists.
