As long as the wheels are clean (very -- no brake dust or dirt), the stick on weights are very good. They are only rated up to about 130mph or so (I'm not sure where the manufacturer got that number). We always use a road force balancer (Hunter) that you specify where you are going to put all of the weights (whether stick on or clip on) and it will use only those locations for the weights.
You can go as far as saying that you want rear only, and preferably behind the spokes and the machine will do it's best to set up the tire on the rim so all of the weights will be behind the spokes. Pretty nice, but it can be very time consuming.
